Refugee Children, Meheba

JRS is in Zambia since 1993. We went there called by the Catholic Bishop of Solwezi to work in Meheba Refugee Settlement (North Western Province).

In 1997 a project for refugees in Lusaka was opened under the name of "Peace Centre". That same year the National Office was established in Lusaka, with administrative and advocacy functions.

In the year 2000, the National Office started formally a "Policy Program" that systematizes our work for structural changes in favour of the integration of refugees in Zambia.

Also in 2000, JRS responded to an invitation from UNHCR to work in the new Nangweshi Refugee Camp (Western Province).

Our most recent project has just started in the year 2002: it consists in providing support to the efforts of the local Church in favour of refugees in Northern Zambia.
